University Police and Public Safety is staffed with sworn police officers. Departmental staff provides the Abington campus with Police and Safety Services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you need to speak with an officer, you may call the Penn State Abington Police office at 215-881-7575.
The Penn State Abington Police Office is located in the Rydal Building Room 106.
The Police and Public Safety Department is also affiliated with the Montgomery County Communications Center. We may also be contacted 24 hours a day through the "Montgomery County Police Dispatch."
The Station Commander and all police officers are graduates of a certified police academy approved by the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission. The sworn police officers complete state-mandated training requirements established for law enforcement officers and have the same legal authority as any other municipal police officer.
Penn State University Police and Public Safety officers maintain a cooperative relationship with the surrounding police departments. This includes Abington Township Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police, and other state and federal agencies.
Some of the benefits of these relationships are:
- interaction in training programs,
- the use of joint radio systems,
- coordination of coverage for special events,
- most importantly, a mutual effort when investigating serious incidents. Agencies collaborate whenever possible on investigations and crime prevention programs to provide the best possible police services to our campus and local communities.
Penn State Abington University Police and Public Safety maintains a daily 24-hour patrol of the campus. In addition to patrol duties, officers are assigned to investigation, crime prevention, parking, and safety units.
